PTO Meeting - Thank You!

Thank you to all the families who attended our first Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) meeting of the year! It was a wonderful opportunity to introduce the PTO, discuss our role in supporting the school, review the budget for the upcoming year, and engage with our school leadership.

Your presence and participation are vital to fostering a strong community, and we appreciate your commitment to enhancing our students' educational experience.

For those who would like to revisit the information shared during the meeting, please click here to review the slides. We look forward to seeing you at our next meeting on Wednesday, October 16.

Sponsorship Opportunities

If you know of any businesses that would like to support our school and gain exposure in return, please encourage them to contact us at pto@shepherd-elementary.org. Together, we can make Fall Fest a memorable event for everyone involved! Thank you for your support!

Family/Faculty Kickball Game

The Shepherd tradition continues! Following the rousing success of our first Family/Faculty kickball game last fall, we're continuing the tradition and are now recruiting players for this year's game!

Where: Shepherd Lower Field

This is a friendly game, and no practice or experience is necessary -- just your best Shepherd spirit!

As we did last spring, each team (Team Green and Team Gold) will be a mix of families/caregivers and faculty/staff so that we have more opportunities for folks to collaborate and cheer each other on. Feel free to sign up for either team.

Shepherd Elementary School Star Achievers
SESSA No School Days

SESSA's "No School Day" schedule is now on our website. "No School Days" are a full day of coverage provided by Star Achievers for DCPS professional development and parent-teacher conferences. We are not open for holiday/vacation breaks. Our program starts at 9am and ends at 6pm, with a 3pm pick up option as well. No school days are open to any current Shepherd Elementary student, current SESSA families will have to enroll for NSD's if needed. They are not included in your monthly tuition. If you have any questions on how NSD's operate feel free to ask eric.viera@sesstarachievers.com. Link is attached here for sign ups.

Sign-up for Enrichments Opens Monday

Thank you all for your input on our SESSA enrichment questionnaire. Sign-up for enrichments will be available Monday, September 23. We have identified the most popular programs and are working with the school to get a set schedule that works around any Shepherd Elementary teams, clubs, performances, meetings, and events. SESSA clubs are open to the entire school; however, current SESSA families take priority for enrichment classes. If a class does not fill up, we will gladly invite non-SESSA families to join our extracurricular activities.

Giving Back Opportunities
Teacher Appreciation Program (TAP)

The Teacher Appreciation Program, or TAP, gives parents an opportunity to recognize a teacher at Shepherd for their great work and dedication. TAP invites parents to write a letter of appreciation recognizing a teacher who has been especially helpful or admirable in the classroom.

Once a month, a special teacher will be selected from the nominations to receive a Wishlist fund bonus. The recognition letters will also be shared with the selected teacher and school community.

TAP a teacher today by submitting a nomination here.

We are still looking for room parents for the following classrooms:

Time to Support the 2024-2025 Shepherd 180 Fund

Help the Shepherd PTO fund lots of great events, initiatives, and extra circular efforts at Shepherd this year by donating to the 180 Fund.

It's called the 180 Fund because there are 180 instructional days in the school year and your donation of a dollar a day per student helps the PTO support sending students on offsite field trips, funding teacher educational wish lists, putting on school plays and concerts, updating outdoor playground equipment, funding additional academic supports, and hosting school-wide events! This budget really helps us give our students even more unique, meaningful and enriching opportunities each year.

Any contribution is always much appreciated. And as a reminder, your contribution is 100% tax deductible. Thanks for your support!
