2022 Fall Fest Retrospective

A big, big thank you to all the organizers, room parents, volunteers and sponsors who made 2022 Fall Fest a huge success.  We are especially grateful to Jodi Arellano and Taryn Losch-Beridon who provided critical support with room parent communication and planning logistics and our Chair,Madeline Ramos, who coordinated permits with they city, secured all sponsors and vendors, and made the Festival fun, fun, fun!  Thanks to everyone's collective efforts, the event grossed $11,332!

Fall Fest Lost and Found

At Sunday's event, the PTO found 2 pairs of eyeglasses that we are hoping to return. If you lost a pair of eyeglasses, please send a description to info@shepherd-elementary.org and we'll reunite you with your glasses.

Grade Level Google Groups

Grade-level Google groups have been created for all grades and will be used by Room Parents to communicate and coordinate grade-level efforts to support the teachers, classroom activities, and the PTO.  If you have not received an invitation (check your spam folder!) for your child's Google Group, please reach out to your room parent or email Room Parent Network Coordinator Jodi at arellanojodi@gmail.com

Shepherd Volunteers: Background Investigations

Did you know DCPS updated their volunteer policy with the Return to Open Schools?

As Principal Russell noted in her newsletter and the PTO meeting, all parents and family members who would like to participate by volunteering (to include school trips and other school events) must complete the DCPS Clearance process before volunteer services can be provided.  To receive the proper clearance, families must:

  • Complete the DCPS Clearance Application. Please note the "DCPS/Program POC" on the form is AP Shamayne Coles
  • Complete a TB Self-Assessment form
  • Complete a fingerprinting check.  Fingerprinting locations are conveniently located across the DC Metro area with Saturday appointments available
Teacher Appreciation Program (TAP)

Congratulations to Mr. Reginald Smith as our October TAP winner!

The Teacher Appreciation Program, or TAP, gives parents an opportunity to recognize a teacher at Shepherd for their great work and dedication. TAP invites parents to write a letter of appreciation recognizing a teacher who has been especially helpful or admirable in the classroom.

Once a month, a special teacher will be selected from the nominations to receive a Wishlist fund bonus.  The recognition letters will also be shared with the selected teacher and school community.

TAP a teacher today by submitting a nomination here.

WAYS TO GIVE BACK
Audit Committee Volunteers Needed

The PTO is looking for 1 additional volunteer to serve on the audit committee and audit our SY21-23 financials. This role is completely virtual so you can work as your schedule allow. We do ask that the audit is completed before November 15th so we can file our taxes. If you or someone you know is interested please send an email to ptotreasurer@shepherd-elementary.org

PTO Board Looking for Used iPad or Tablet

The PTO Board is asking the community if any families would be able to donate an iPad or similar tablet device.  This device would be used to ensure quicker and more efficient onsite sales for events, gear, and spirit wear. If you have a device that you think would fit our need, please email info@shepherd-elementary.org. Thank you!

Looking for More Ways to Give Back?

The Shepherd Website has a comprehensive list of ways to contribute through donations, volunteering, shopping, and sponsorships. Please visit the website for a complete list of vendors and more information on how you can help enrich the Shepherd experience.

Time to Support the 2022-2023 Shepherd 180 Fund

Help the Shepherd PTO fund lots of great events, initiatives, and extra circular efforts at Shepherd this year by donating to the 180 Fund.

It's called the 180 Fund because there are 180 instructional days in the school year and your donation of a dollar a day per student helps the PTO support child care at events, sending students on offsite field trips, funding teacher educational wish lists, putting on school plays and concerts, updating outdoor playground equipment, funding additional academic supports, and hosting school-wide events! This budget really helps us give our students even more unique, meaningful and enriching opportunities each year.

Any contribution is always much appreciated. And as a reminder, your contribution is 100% tax deductible. Thanks for your support - we're looking forward to getting back to BETTER THAN NORMAL!
