18th Annual Spring Gala

Shepherd’s 18th Annual Spring Gala and Auction is only 3 short weeks away! If you have a child that attends Shepherd Elementary, consider checking some items off the list below…

  • Help your room parents and homeroom teacher with a class art project for the auction. Class contributions are some of our most popular items!
  • Buy tickets to attend the event. Tickets must be purchased in advance and are scheduled to close March 24th
  • Talk to fellow parents and friends to encourage them to attend and bid
  • When the auction site opens, bid on items that will raise funds for Shepherd.  We have some amazing items like:
    • A message to your child on the Shepherd Elementary marquee
    • private tour of Denizen's Brewery
    • Entrance tickets to Six Flags
    • A $1000 gift certificate for orthodontics and much more!
  • Purchase an angel ticket so a beloved teacher can attend for free. If you can't contribute to a full ticket, partial tickets are now available.
  • Contribute as a class/grade to a themed basket for the auction - Donations can be submitted here.
  • Ask a local business that you frequent to donate an item or sponsor the event
  • Volunteer for small event-support activities.  We specifically need help with copy writers, donated item pickups, and data entry with the auction site. Even just devoting 1 hour/week would help tremendously!

We hope you can check at least a few boxes, and please reach out to the Gala Committee if you have any questions or would like to volunteer!

Weekly Gala Planning Meetings

As the biggest fundraiser of the year, the Spring Gala takes a corps of community volunteers to be successful. Responsibilities range from event logistics to sponsorships & donations to communications.  All ideas are welcome!  The team meets weekly on Thursdays from 4pm - 5 pm.  Please join us virtually here if you can!

Need a Gala Babysitter?

Urban Sitter is offering a discount code to help families find caregivers in order to attend the Spring Gala on April 1st. If you sign-up for 1 month of Urban Sitter, you can use the following code for 20% off your first month of UrbanSitter membership: EVENT2023

DCPS Panorama Survey

Attention Shepherd ES Families! DCPS has launched the 2023 Panorama Survey, which measures social emotional learning, satisfaction, and engagement across staff, families, and students. Share your perspective by completing the survey: bit.ly/dcpsfamily. The survey will close March 31st.

Fundraiser for Shepherd's Cheer Teem

Thank you for all your support of the recent Shepherd Cheerleading Fundraiser! The team still has a ways to go and has renewed their fundraising website.

To support the team, please visit the Double Good Popcorn Fundraising site. The fundraiser will be open from March 9th - 12th.

50% of total sales will go towards the Shepherd Elementary Cheerleaders Uniforms and help offset a portion of the costs each cheerleader will have to pay for their uniforms.

Thanks for your support of the team!

Dr. Brown's Corner

Each month, the Bulletin will feature parent resources courtesy of Dr. Persephone Brown, our wonderful School Psychologist.  These resources provide tips to help with your physical, social and emotional well-being.  Take a few moments to read or listen to some of these pieces and know we're here for you and your students.

WAYS TO GIVE BACK
2023-2024 PTO Board Nominations

Do you have a passion for communications and engagement? Are you a strong financial analyst? Are you good with documenting rules and procedures? We are starting to look ahead to our 2023-2024 PTO Board elections and will have some board positions that will be vacated. If you would like to consider applying for one of the many rewarding positions, you can find more information on the responsibilities here or email questions to elections@shepherd-elementary.org.  More information about elections will be released in the coming months!

Box Tops for Education

The Box Tops for Education app is a quick and easy way to give back to Shepherd.  Simply follow these steps:

  • Scan paper receipts into the app within 14 days of purchase. The app will automatically recognize Box Top Products

  • Sit back and watch Shepherd's earnings grow!

Looking for More Ways to Give Back?

The Shepherd Website has a comprehensive list of ways to contribute through donations, volunteering, shopping, and sponsorships. Please visit the website for a complete list of vendors and more information on how you can help enrich the Shepherd experience.

Teacher Appreciation Program (TAP)

Congratulations to Ms. Montgomery as our February TAP winner!

The Teacher Appreciation Program, or TAP, gives parents an opportunity to recognize a teacher at Shepherd for their great work and dedication. TAP invites parents to write a letter of appreciation recognizing a teacher who has been especially helpful or admirable in the classroom.

Once a month, a special teacher will be selected from the nominations to receive a Wishlist fund bonus.  The recognition letters will also be shared with the selected teacher and school community.

TAP a teacher today by submitting a nomination here.

Time to Support the 2022-2023 Shepherd 180 Fund

Help the Shepherd PTO fund lots of great events, initiatives, and extra circular efforts at Shepherd this year by donating to the 180 Fund.

It's called the 180 Fund because there are 180 instructional days in the school year and your donation of a dollar a day per student helps the PTO support child care at events, sending students on offsite field trips, funding teacher educational wish lists, putting on school plays and concerts, updating outdoor playground equipment, funding additional academic supports, and hosting school-wide events! This budget really helps us give our students even more unique, meaningful and enriching opportunities each year.

Any contribution is always much appreciated. And as a reminder, your contribution is 100% tax deductible. Thanks for your support - we're looking forward to getting back to BETTER THAN NORMAL!

Many, Many Thanks to our 180 Fund Donors!
