Looking for Childcare for the Spring Gala?

Six staff members from our Star Achievers before/afterschool provider are available for babysitting on May 18th for either one family or a pod of children from 2-3 families. You can connect with these staff members by contacting Annie Nguyen at anniedc9@yahoo.com. Please email how many children need care, their ages, your home address, and any other important logistical information (you have a dog/cat; you would like the sitter to stay past 10pm or arrive before 6:30pm, etc).

19th Annual Spring Gala FAQs

We are less than 2 weeks away from the Spring Gala and there is still lots of information to share! We tried to condense the most important information as FAQs. If you have any questions, please reach out to sesgala@shepherd-elementary.org

Where and when is this year’s Gala?

This year’s Gala is Saturday, May 18th at Jinya @ Walter Reed. More information can be found on our website.

Can I still purchase Gala tickets?

Yes! Tickets are available via Handbid but all ticket sales will close May 10th at 11:59 pm so we can finalize a guest count with Jinya.

I can’t attend the Gala, can I still bid on items?

Yes! Simply by registering in Handbid, you will have access to all auction items and can bid remotely from the comforts of your own home.

Can my friends and family bid on auction items?

Yes! You do not have to have a child at Shepherd Elementary to bid on auction items. Please share the Handbid registration site with your family and friends and encourage them to bid on items when they become available.

When will items be available for bidding?

Items will be available for bidding starting May 13th and will close on May 18th at 9:30 pm. The PTO will send an announcement when items are available for bidding.

Will marquee messages be a part of this year’s auction?

Yes SY 2024-2025 marquee messages (which are the birthday messages you frequently see on the digital sign outside the school) will exclusively be available as an item in the Handbid system. Minimum bids will start at $50 or you can use the “buy it now” feature for a $250 buy. There will be 3 marquee messages offered for each month.

What other interesting auction items will be available this year?

Our donation list is still being finalized but some fun auction items to look for:

  • Personalized Classroom Projects

  • “Teacher” for a Day: Principal, Assistant Principal, PE Teacher, IB Coordinator

  • Teach with Ms. Caola and Park Playdate with Ms. Shepherd

  • VIP Seating for the 2024 5th Grade Promotion, 2024 Winter Concert, and 2025 Spring Musical

  • Tickets to Washington Nationals, DC United, and University of Michigan Football

  • Gift cards to many local retailers such as Reveler’s Hour, Tail Up Goat, Nail Saloon, Nothing Bundt Cakes, etc.

  • Overnight trips to St. Michaels and Harper’s Ferry

  • Sign-up parties for Sweat DC workout, Paint & Sip, BBQ & Bourbon, and Mah Jong and Mixers

  • One ½ year of before and after care with SESSA

  • And much more!

What will this year’s paddle raise support?

This year's paddle raise will support IB activities and remedy budget cuts for operational support needs. More information to come!

EOY Receipts for Reimbursement

As the PTO Treasurers prepare to close out the books for the 2023-2024 school year, we need to ensure all reimbursement requests are recorded. If you have any receipts that require PTO Reimbursement, please complete the Google form no later than May 30th. This will ensure you are reimbursed before the close of the school year and before the transition of PTO officers. Thank you!

Family/Faculty Softball Game

Following the rousing success of our first softball game last spring, we're keeping the tradition going and are now recruiting players for this year's game.

Date: Wednesday, May 29th

Time: 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm

Where: Shepherd Lower Field

This is a friendly game, and no practice or experience are necessary -- just your best Shepherd spirit!

This year, each team (Team Green and Team Gold) will be a mix of families/caregivers and faculty/staff so that we have more opportunities for folks to collaborate and cheer each other on.

Last year, the teams filled quickly -- so nab your spot today! Registration is first come, first served.

Each month, the Bulletin will feature parent resources courtesy of Dr. Persephone Brown, our wonderful School Psychologist. These resources provide tips to help with your physical, social and emotional well-being. Take a few moments to read or listen to some of these pieces and know we're here for you and your students.

Online Gear Store

Our Shepherd Elementary gear storefront is now available for orders under "Giving Back to Shepherd" on the Shepherd website. After you've completed your purchase, gear will be delivered directly to your child's classroom within 7 business days. The PTO will still host in-person events throughout the year, but the gear store will provide a convenient alternative to those sales.

Please note, if you select gear and it cannot be added to the bag, it is likely sold out.

Teacher Appreciation Program (TAP)

The Teacher Appreciation Program, or TAP, gives parents an opportunity to recognize a teacher at Shepherd for their great work and dedication. TAP invites parents to write a letter of appreciation recognizing a teacher who has been especially helpful or admirable in the classroom.

Once a month, a special teacher will be selected from the nominations to receive a Wishlist fund bonus. The recognition letters will also be shared with the selected teacher and school community.

TAP a teacher today by submitting a nomination here.

Shepherd 180 Fund Appeal And Bonus Incentive!

Help the Shepherd PTO fund lots of great events, initiatives, and extra curricular efforts at Shepherd this year by donating to the 180 Fund.

It's called the 180 Fund because there are 180 instructional days in the school year and your donation of a dollar a day per student helps the PTO support sending students on offsite field trips, funding teacher educational wish lists, putting on school plays and concerts, updating outdoor playground equipment, funding additional academic supports, and hosting school-wide events! This budget really helps us give our students even more unique, meaningful and enriching opportunities each year.

Any contribution is always much appreciated. And as a reminder, your contribution is 100% tax deductible. Thanks for your support!

Thank you to our 180 Families!!
